I started receiving shiatsu treatments about a year ago after a particularly stressful period at work. A colleague recommended it, and honestly, I didn't know what to expect.

The first session was unlike anything I'd experienced. The practitioner worked through my clothes, using thumbs, palms, and even elbows to apply pressure along what she called energy meridians. Some spots were tender, almost painful, but in a good way — like releasing something that had been stuck.

What surprised me most was the emotional release. After the third session, I felt this wave of calm that lasted for days. My sleep improved, my shoulders dropped from their permanent position near my ears, and I generally felt more grounded.

I now go every three weeks and consider it essential maintenance. Anyone else a shiatsu convert?

I had almost the exact same experience! The emotional release caught me off guard too. My shiatsu practitioner explained that we hold emotions in our body as physical tension, and releasing the tension can release the emotions along with it. It sounds a bit esoteric, but I definitely felt it.
